LIFE TTGG Partner: PoliMI – Department of Design

The LIFE TTGG project “The tough get going” was co-funded by the European Environment and Climate Action Programme (Life 2014-2020). The objective of the project is to orient the development of the dairy sector towards an improvement in the production process efficiency, in order to guarantee its growth and preserve quality in the perspective of environmental sustainability.

In order to achieve the objective of improving the efficiency of the whole European PDO hard and semi-hard cheese production chain, the project involves 7 highly qualified partners: Consorzio tutela Grana Padano, Politecnico di Milano, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Piacenza, Fondazione Qualivita, oriGIn, Enersem and CNIEL.

Among these, The Department of Design of the Politecnico di Milano, involves in the projcet two working groups with complementary competences and objectives:

  1. study and development of a communication system for consumers. The system aims to transfer the contents of the PEF programme and the results of the TTGG project to the different types of consumers of Grana Padano cheese, starting from the packaging of the product itself.
  2. data collection and assessment of the environmental impact of the packagers of the Grana Padano Consortium; assessment of the environmental impact of the downstream phases of the dairy chain (distribution, use and end of life). Identification of actions to mitigate the environmental impact of the packer and reduce food waste by the consumer. Assistance to the design of the decision support tool in the environmental field: front-end (structure, graphic and interface features…) and back-end (requirements, types of users, functions…).
