The software EDSS (Environmental Decision Support System), developed within the LIFE TTGG project, allows to measure, pragmatically and straightforwardly, the environmental impacts of hard cheese production: from raw milk to milk processing, ripening, packaging, use, and end of life.
The software allows assessing hot spots and identifying improvement strategies for the whole supply chain.
The software will be further developed to be usable within the Made Green in Italy and EPD certification schemes. The analysis of the data collected on the consortia Grana Padano DOP has allowed to elaborate a set of actions for efficiency improvement, permitting each actor to evaluate its own potential to improve the environmental profile and receive concrete solutions about the most effective strategy concerning its business reality.
