LIFE TTGG Partner: Enersem

The LIFE TTGG project “The tough get going” was co-funded by the European Environment and Climate Action Programme (Life 2014-2020). The objective of the project is to orient the development of the dairy sector towards an improvement in the production process efficiency, in order to guarantee its growth and preserve quality in the perspective of environmental sustainability.

In order to achieve the objective of improving the efficiency of the whole European PDO hard and semi-hard cheese production chain, the project involves 7 highly qualified partners: Consorzio tutela Grana Padano, Politecnico di Milano, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore di Piacenza, Fondazione Qualivita, oriGIn, Enersem and CNIEL.

Among these, Enersem is an innovative spin-off company of Politecnico di Milano. The core of its work is to develop a software that allows better monitoring and managing of the energy of plants, by taking advantage of the possibilities offered by IoT for Industry 4.0 and by Artificial Intelligence. It also provides consultations for energy efficiency, even through predictive maintenance.

Within the LIFE TTGG project, ENERSEM has the task of creating innovative software. In this case, the software is created in order to improve the energy and environmental performances of a century-old tradition, without affecting its quality. The work carried out so far by ENERSEM makes it possible to predict at least two relevant results: a reduction of over 15 thousand tons of CO2 in one year and a savings of over 2 euros for each form of Grana Padano PDO produced, more than 10 million on the whole of the Consortium.

The work of ENERSEM includes 5 main moments:

  • Inspections in Italian dairies of GP and European of other 4 DOP;
  • Collection of production and consumption data;
  • Monitoring of crucial production phases;
  • Data analysis with an ad hoc system and energy efficiency solutions;
  • Decision support software.
